Don’t forget to smile!

Sometimes it feels hard to get through the day. A bad experience, like getting yelled at by a boss, being on the wrong end of road rage or a difficult conversation can leave us furious and bursting with negativity. Bigger life events, like the loss of a loved one or other personal tragedy have an even bigger impact on our mental health.

This can sometimes cause us to feel overwhelmed, and we find ourselves dragging our feet and struggling to shake the feeling of being down that we are experiencing.

Numerous research articles have shown that negative emotions can hard the body. Periods of prolonged stress, fear, anger and anxiety alter our biology and wear down the various systems of our body which may lead to the development of illnesses like:

  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes

Ongoing negativity has a significant impact on our immune system and ability to cope with additional stress. The mind/body connection is incredibly strong and what you think can often become reality!

The next time you are having a bad day, first grit your teeth, and then try to schedule in something that is going to bring a smile to your face. This may be a walk on the beach at Mornington, a great cup of coffee at Mount Eliza or reading a funny story or spending some quality time with a loved one.

Whatever it is, make it a priority so that you can take control of your happiness. . It is amazing how quickly it can lift your mood. Always remember to pass it on. Someone out there might be feeling low as well, so give them a smile!
