Remember to drink plenty of water in winter
Everyone knows they need to drink more water, but this becomes harder as we move into colder, winter months. Why drink a cold glass of water when we can have a hot drink (like coffee, tea or hot chocolate) instead?
Water is our body’s principal chemical component, and makes up around 60% of our body weight. Each system in our body depends on water. Coffee and Teas act as diuretics, which can cause us to feel dehydrated.
The average person needs two to two and a half litres of water per day to stay hydrated (about 8 to 10 glasses). This increases with exercise. The benefits of staying hydrated include:
- Enhanced Skin Complexion
- Boosted Immunity
- Weight Loss
- Flushing out toxins
- Improved Digestion
- More regular bowel movements
- Increased energy
If you are struggling to drink enough water in winter months, try drinking herbal (non-caffeinated) teas, or hot water with a squeeze of lemon. This has a nice warming effect and will help you stay hydrated.
