Why should children see a Chiropractor

As much as 65% of our neurological development occurs in the first 3 years of our lives. For children, much of their development comes from their environment. This includes:

  • Play
  • Movement
  • Touch
  • Interactions with others
  • Sickness (colds, stomach aches etc.)
  • Emotional Events

Increasingly, more and more evidence points to the role that movement plays on ensuring the proper development of children. This isn’t just their physical development, but also extends to learning and emotional development.

Most children have difficulty sitting still. Proper movement comes from activities including:

  • Running
  • Wrestling
  • Riding a bike
  • Climbing
  • Crawling
  • Playing hide and seek

Kids love doing these types or movements. Or at least they used to. An increasing reliance on technology, smaller backyards and hover parenting are all factors that have led to children playing less, especially outside.

This creates many challenges for children. Natural use of the body causes all of our joints to move, including the joints in the spine. Up to 50% of the information your brain receives comes through movement of the spinal column. This movement information is vital for the processing of all other information.

When our spine stops moving correctly  it often sets up a negative feedback system that can affect the function of our motor (muscles), cerebellar (brain controlling movement) and vestibular (balance) systems. This can impact:

  • The way we move, including our co-ordination and posture.
  • Our memory and ability to learn
  • Concentration levels
  • Emotional rationality
  • Organ and immune function

If you suspect that your child has improper spinal motion, then it may be time to get them checked out by a chiropractor.  Many new families choose to get their children checked out soon after birth. The sooner improper spinal motion has been corrected, the less impact it will have on their overall health and development.

A Chiropractor can help with the normal development of your child. Chiropractors are experts in assessing and correcting areas of the spinal column and nervous system that may be stimulating negative feedback to the brain, impacting upon your child’s development and ongoing health.

Chiropractors also use very gentle and effective techniques to ensure that your child is able to move property from head to toes.

In family chiropractic care, adjustments are incredibly safe and gentle. Often only fingertip pressure is required! As an added bonus, most kids realize that Chiropractic helps them to feel good and function better, so they tend to enjoy having their spine checked.
